Oracle Solaris (formerly Solaris) is a commercial Unix distribution developed and maintained by Oracle. Traditionally the OS built to run on proprietary SPARC based Sun and Oracle servers, Solaris has been ported to x64 architecture in early 2000s.
Open Indiana is the most popular open-source edition of Solaris OS still developed and distributed by open source community, based on the Illumos collection of software (which originated from Open Solaris project).
